a year ago today

It was a year ago today that I had to bring Phoebe into the hospital because she was lethargic and had very very dark poo. I knew something was wrong. I was so scared.

I'm sorry to be so sad.

It's impossible not to be right now.

The worst weekend of my life was last year at this time.

I'm trying to remember only the good times but right now my heart can't help but remember the extreme sadness and the pain and suffering that my poor Phoebe was going thru.

I love you Phoebe.

I miss you.

Last year

Forgive me if the next 5 days on this blog are rather sad. I'm trying so hard to think of only the good times with Phoebe, but it's hard when I can still remember last year at this time so clearly.

It was a year ago yesterday that the stroller I purchased for Phoebe arrived in the mail. :o) I put it together and we went for a walk right away. We only had one other chance to use the stroller before she passed away.

I can't believe it's been a year already. Time goes so fast. I still miss my girl so much it makes my heart ache at times. Phoebe was the love of my life. I hope she will visit me in my dreams tonight. I really need to see her and pet her.

Phoebe's Addison's Disease

My desk top dog calendar has a dog today that has Addison's Disease. Instantly reminded me of Phoebe and what she went through the last 6 months of her life. I MISS MY GIRL!!!

Don't forget that June 30th is "Phoebe Remembrance Day"! Do something fun with your pet in Phoebe's honor. Go for a walk. Go get ice cream! Go for a boat ride if you can (Phoebe loved boat rides!) Dance! Phoebe LOVED to dance! :o)

It's mine! ALL MINE!

Isn't she gorgeous???

Cat of the week!

Meet Pat:
I don't remember exactly what it was about Pat that made me want to have him as my "cat of the week". I remember loving him the moment I picked him up from his cage. I remember liking his name. I remember thinking "He looks a little bit like Germaine's Cole" but I can't remember if he did anything truly special to make him "cat of the week" other then he was a total sweetie. I hope he is NOT there next weekend.

Double the Love

http://www.animalhumanesociety.org/
June is National Adopt a Cat Month and in an effort to increase cat adoptions and reduce euthanasia during the heavy intake summer months, Animal Humane Society will begin offering a Double the Love opportunity to the public.

“During the summer months, Animal Humane Society sees an average of 70 cats a day brought to our five sites. That’s nearly 500 cats a week, and nearly 2,000 a month,” says Cindy Johnson, director of customer service at Animal Humane Society. “We see overwhelming numbers of cats and kittens left with us and we need to get these felines into new homes as quickly as possible.”

Beginning June 15 through September 30, 2009, customers can adopt one cat at the regular adoption fee and the fee will be waived for the second cat. Double the love and help reduce cat overpopulation. “We are seeing kittens brought to us earlier each year and through early autumn,” adds Johnson. “No longer is a kitten season a matter of two or three months but up to five or six or longer.”

This unprecedented program is available at all five locations: Buffalo, Coon Rapids, Golden Valley, St. Paul and Woodbury. Customers will have the first choice of a cat or kitten of any age with the second cat one year of age or older. Customers can choose two felines from any kennel or room in AHS Adoption Centers.

The Double the Love offer is available only at the time of adoption, during the promotion dates and is not retroactive. Both cats must be adopted at the same time. No other discounts apply.

For people who aren’t ready to adopt or desire a long-term commitment, Animal Humane Society is offering the Mission: Meow program. Through Mission: Meow the community is able to open their home to an adult cat for six months during the busy summer months and return them for adoption during the winter months when feline intake decreases. Animal Humane Society provides all food and supplies for the cat during the foster period.

Cat of the week

Meet Mary:

Mary was my favorite cat of the day. (which is hard to say 'cuz there are soooo many nice ones!) But Mary is my pick this week 'cuz she's beautiful, sweet, snuggly and really friendly. I have a feeling she won't be there next Sunday! Someone will adopt her for sure. (I HOPE!)

Phoebe & her Grandma

One of my favorite pictures of Phoebe with her Grandma. Taken last spring.

Happy girl

Today the weather is absolutely perfect. The kind of day Phoebe loved most. Here is a picture I took of her enjoying a day that was just like today. Beautiful. I don't remember when this picture was taken. 2007, I think?

My girls together

It's hard leaving Sabrina home alone. I didn't used to be so worried about going to work and leaving the girls alone 'cuz they had each other. Now Sabrina is by herself and it makes me sad. She does just fine, and the problem here is all mine. (Guilt, sadness) *sigh*

Diaper duty

When Phoebe became sick with Addison's disease the medication made her super duper thirsty. She drank a lot. Which meant she had to pee a lot. She had to start wearing diapers. I would buy newborn diapers and cut holes for her tail. She was always such a good girl about wearing them.

(Phoebe in her diaper and Isaac Mizrahi polo shirt!)

Cat of the week

Meet Snuggles:
I can understand why this kitty was named Snuggles because that is what she did the whole time I was holding her. She was very content to just snuggle in my arms. We walked around the room for over five minutes. Not once did she ever try to escape. She just purred and snuggled with me. A perfect cat for a couch potato like me. I have a feeling she will not be there next Sunday when I go back to volunteer.

Sabrina!

Sabrina got groomed today. She looks GORGEOUS!
(She has taken over Phoebe's *job* of stealing my heating pad.)
The groomers gave Sabrina clean toes. First time this has been done. I like it! It makes her look extra fancy. Even more like the princess she is!

Phoebe & Wyatt

This is one of my favorite pictures of all time:
Taken in 2003

Remembering Phoebe

Phoebe loved it when people would zerbit her or even just make the sound of a zerbit near her.
You know what a zerbit is, right? (If you watched The Cosby Show you do....)

As soon as someone would make the zerbit noise Phoebe would give you lots and lots of poodle kisses.

Phoebe's stroller

On June 24, 2008 the pet stroller I ordered for Phoebe arrived. We only had a chance to use the stroller twice before she passed away. Ever since than I've been trying to donate the stroller, with no luck (Home For Life said they were interested in it, but then never got back to me with how/when to give it to them!) I've had the stroller in the trunk of my car all this time. Yesterday, I finally was able to give the stroller to a dog in need. A pug named Darby-Do.
I know I could have sold it a long time ago, but it was my goal to GIVE it to someone who needed it. Darby-Do does. I hope she likes it. It made me so happy (and I did cry too)

Phoebe as a pup

I got Phoebe back in November 1996. Meeting her was the best thing that ever happened to me. She was the love of my life. :o)
Wasn't she a cutie??!!??
I remember holding her as a pup while she would be sleeping and she would suckle in her dreams. She was remembering her mommy. It was so sweet.
Phoebe had lots of energy. She was a good girl, most of the time. I remember she peed on the bed once. She knew she was naughty, but she did it anyway. I think she wanted the attention. (I have another theory too, but this is a happy post, and I don't want to talk about other things that were in our past. This is about me and Phoebe and nothing else.)

Memories of Phoebe

If anyone has any fond memories of my Phoebe girl that they would like to share with me. I'd love to hear them.

:o)

Remembering Phoebe

This is going to be a tough month for me, June. I cannot believe it's already close to the one year anniversary of my Phoebe girl's death. I want to have positive thoughts this month so I've decided to try and do a daily post remembering good times I had with my girl.

I remember Phoebe's happy dance. It was so cute. She would spin, hop and yelp for joy.
Phoebe would do her happy dance when I would say these words: "Wanna go to Henry's house?" "Wanna go to the CABIN?" and Phoebe would also do her dance for her Grandma when she was about to get a yummy treat.

I love you, Phoebe. I miss you.
